Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol tells the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a wealthy and miserly old man, who is visited on Christmas Eve by four ghosts: his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. These spirits show Scrooge the unhappiness his greed has caused and the consequences of his unkindness, ultimately transforming him from a selfish individual into a benevolent and generous person who embodies the Christmas spirit.
